We are pleased to announce that following a competitive tender process earlier in the year, that work has begun on a project to build a digital platform focusing in on Wood in Construction at a Municipal level.
Ambitious action from local governments - as shown by the likes of Skellefteå and Trondheim - holds the key to unlocking the potential of wood in shifting towards a sustainable construction sector. This project will allow more Nordic municipalities to achieve that goal.
Our shared vision is for the Nordic digital platform to be the first stop of information, knowledge sharing, and guidance for Nordic municipalities who wish to include more wood in construction at local level. The Nordic platform will be an open access platform for municipalities to collect and share information.
It will support and add on to already established national efforts focusing on increasing the use of wood in construction, such as those in Norway, Finland, and Sweden. Additionally the platform will tie together ongoing initiatives Build in Wood and Nordic Network for Tall Timber Buildings.
It is our goal to create a Nordic platform, which not only guides municipalities along a roadmap for building with wood, but also invites them to contribute actively and to share experiences.
The material on the platform will be gathered from the experiences of the leading municipalities building with wood in the Nordics, and cover topics such as:
- Advantages and pitfalls of building in wood
- General regulatory problems
- Public procurement and wood
- Developing a wood construction strategy
- Working with contractors and other stakeholders
- Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs)
When will it launch?
Our plan is that the platform will go live in Autumn of 2020, and we'll be launching it in partnership with municipalities and holding workshops across the Nordic region.
